Socially Sound

Here at Socially Sound I'll give my two cents on all things Social Media and other random tidbits - in the only way I know how - sarcasm.

  1. Mental note to self - never use these words.
It’s a shame though because I really am a motivated team player with extensive experience and a proven track record. Not to mention a fast-paced innovative results-oriented problem solver who has an entrepreneurial and dynamic personality.
Oh well.

  3. Couple of important things to note this week

    1. Florence and The Machine will be on SNL this weekend.
    2. Tomorrow I’ll be leading/teaching a workshop on social media at the United Nations, as in the place where Donald Duck in the cartoon, Donald in Mathmagic Land, uses it as an example of the usage of the mathematical golden rectangle in modern architecture - or - where Nicole Kidman plays a UN interpreter who inadvertently overhears a plot to assassinate a fictional African dictator. I thought those two examples would be helpful in explaining the cool factor of teaching social media at this venue.
    3. That’s all.

And if you have 7 minutes and want to relive your childhood - check it out…Donald in Mathmagic Land http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oT_Bxgah9zc

I was recently asked by a friend, “do you have a social media strategy?” I replied, “No, we actually have a relationship strategy.”

All definition discussion aside, we build relationships…

    2. I have an obsession with Social Media Icon sets - it’s not healthy.

    3. R…O…uh oh

Often times when speaking with a company, brand, client, person that breaths regarding social media I’m tasked with the uphill battle of explaining ROI.

And while the interweb doesn’t need one more blog entry on ROI in social media - I’m going to go ahead and say something anyway. (It’s my blog and I’ll write a repetitive post if I want to!)

When did it become a bad thing to do something consumer focused that didn’t yieldimmediate ROI. Sure, maybe I’m in the camp of folks in social media that believe in cupcakes, rainbows, hugs and good times. But frankly I’m a firm believer that good will, loyalty, awareness, value, and relationships are all roads that lead to ROI. And while they don’t follow suit with our “MUST-HAVE-NOW” attitude - it’s those characteristics that get people coming back to Starbucks for $5 coffee.

    4. Tonight shall be spent with Florence And The Machine - it will be a tremendously good night. There are few things in life I enjoy more than a concert of a gifted musician.

    6. Experiment

This weekend I intend to go to the Cloisters, something I’ve been wanting to do for - well, years now.

Generally, when I go to a cool place or do cool things I document it via Twitter or Facebook. But this time around I’m pretending that it’s 1999, and not sending a single tweet or status in real time. Sure I may post a picture or two - but I’m going to do that after the fact. My goal is to take a moment and put down the social media megaphone and enjoy the park, the art, the good weather (fingers crossed) and the company I’m with.

But don’t judge me, I’m going to check-in using Foursquare. Baby steps…

    7. I’m tumblring for the second time.

Let’s give this a second try, shall we?

To have this be a meaningful “first” post - here’s a tip for the day.

Don’t use the automatic Direct Message function on Twitter when someone follows you, unless the message is insanely funny, creative or unique it will simply result it an automatic unfollow.
